Service reflection #4

I have been in this service for almost 3 and a half terms. One thing I am proud of is my own development when interacting with the residents. As mentioned in my previous posts, my development can be shown through my differences with the new G9s who joined the service not so long ago.

I have worked with many different seniors over the time I have been in the service. One skill I have developed is my communication skill. Due to their condition, residents can have severe mood swings. This means we have to choose our words carefully in order to get the residents engaged in the activity. Furthermore, effective communication also meant that I had to be a good listener and be engaged in the conversation. As my past resident said, “you are very humble, it is nice”. Being humble and kind to the residents, listening to them, engaging in a conversation with them. I was able to learn the importance of being an effective communicator.
