Being a part of MUN in UWCSEA has always been a pleasurable learning experience. As the largest club in the school, it encompasses diversity in thought and perspective like no other activity. Debating with others who have different skill sets and MUN experiences, on topics which are very relevant today, and trying to develop creative but realistic solutions to these problems helps link this activity to the Creativity element of CAS, quite directly .

The MUN training sessions, so far, have been rigorous work as I am now preparing for the UWCMUN conference which will be held from the 6th to 8th of October and will be also be considered one my CAS project . I will be part of the Advisory Panel, and will be representing Sudan whilst discussing social inequality, and economic growth amongst other issues. I believe that debating is one of my biggest strengths – i enjoy lively discourses, but usually feel confident to do so, only when it is regarding topics that I am well aware of. The global relevance of the issues we discuss, and the real life, broader implication that our resolutions and proposed solutions have on the world is what makes MUN a more challenging experience. Yet, these very same reasons is also what drives my motivation, and encourages me to take active part in this club. The diplomacy required during MUN conferences and the sensitivity which is to be shown to other member countries is what makes it more than just a ‘debate’. Further more, spending almost the entirety of 3 days with the people in your committee, helps you develop new friendships and improves your learning as well.

Given that the committee procedure in the APQ committee is quite advanced and is different from what I am used it, it will be challenging for me to approach it. Further more, the social, religious, economic and ethical norms of my representative country (Sudan) were not things that I was acquainted with, prior to this conference. However, armed with extensive research, I will look to showcase my knowledge of this situation to be best of my capability, with the hope that it pays off. Awards at the conference are of course a goal, but the conference itself is so much bigger than that – it is so much more than that. Every MUN conference is unique and I hope this conference will be special like previous ones. I therefore hope to continue to take part in other conferences though out the year as well.
