I have been learning to play the piano for about 8 years now. I learnt it, while in India and I still learn it, in Singapore – and this continuity has increased my passion for playing the piano. I take weekly private lessons, where I develop technical skills required to play the pieces, the theory attached to it, as well as increase my knowledge about the pieces. I have also begun to take ABRSM piano exams every year – I received a merit certificate for my grade 4 exam, and look to take it a step ahead, with a distinction in my grade 5 exam. This could also be regarded as a CAS project for me.This way, I aim to improve my piano playing skills, as well as the practise attached to accomplishing this goal, that I have set for myself, this year, in this activity.

Piano playing is more to me than just exams however – it is a wonderful way for me to calm myself when under stress, and it is a way for my to exercise my creativity by taking the initiative to pick up pieces on my own accord. It also helps me sharpen my finer senses and and increases my recognition and appreciation for famous pieces. Learning to play the piano enables me to understand complexity in composition better. It is but cliche to say that ‘music is the window to the soul’, but I believe in this wholeheartedly. I hope that I can always continue to pursue music, even if it is just as a hobby.

Attached is the link to one of the pieces I learnt to play.
