Having studied oligopolistic markets in HL Economics, I could easily identify the IPL’s market structure. Additionally, with ample secondary resources available, I was able to substantiate my claims regarding the features of an oligopoly. However, it was harder to study the impact of these same features of profit maximisation. I also had to consciously avoid cherry-picking, given the sheer volume of data available. While I circulated a survey to obtain primary data, organising interviews was more tedious as I was unable to contact team-owners. Eventually, I interviewed team-sponsor and the founder of Cricwizz. The research process has made me more aware of the importance of source reliability as I begin my final draft. I look to include a list of tournament rules in the introduction for readers potentially unacquainted with cricket. I shall also consider the duality of the IPL, as a monopoly in the market of sports-entertainment while itself being an oligopoly in structure.
