Book (Dpers)

In English we were assigned to write a series of vignettes pertaining to the style of the book House on Mango Street. We then used our vignettes to create a digital book in DPERS. Below is the description and the link to the book.

Series is a book consisting of a series of vignettes. Although written unprofessionally in an almost broken manner, the book divulges into the core of Chris’ individuality. The first vignette touches upon his upbringing, the second and third his personality and lastly his deepest thoughts/feelings. Childlike, bland but sweet.

Mandala Assignment-GPERS

In my GPERS class, we were assigned a task to create a mandala that reflects on our identities and an explanatory essay. I was challenged by the task as I could not come up with any ideas that fit and successfully answers the prompt. This lead to a huge amount of time spent in the essay planning.

Feedback from Mrs P

-change of writing voice from informal to formal. (drew too much inspiration from research)

-more elaboration on examples

-Out of context on the theatrical mask.

Note: I do admit that I am guilty of using too much of the notes in my research to write the essay however I feel like the main reason for the change of writing voice is my lack of revision and editing. The way I wrote the essay is also wrong. I basically copy pasted my notes and added words until it sounded like sentences. The theatrical mask which appeared to be out of context is because of that poor writing style.

Goals

-Write the essay in a more logical manner.

-More revisions and careful editing.

– Provide sufficient details.

Reflection: the historic progression of music listening

These days in order to listen to music all we have to do is open any music app and choose a song. Technology has progressed greatly for us to be able to do so. Before Edison’s invention of the phonograph, the only way for people to listen to music are through live performances. Edison’s phonograph was invented in 1877. Although it was very flawed, it truly was a technological revolution. His invention was followed up by an upgrade which was the gramophone. Unlike the phonograph, the gramophone was much more advanced with features such as better sound quality, the ability to play a recording multiple times and many more.

Following up the gramophone there were other inventions such as the radio, boombox, cds and cassettes. But perhaps the most revolutionary invention would be the I-pod. I-pod allowed people to download and stream music. In a way, I pod introduced an online market for artists to sell their products. Fast forward to the present, we now have multiple ways and platforms to listen to music. The most popular ones include Spotify, youtube and apple music.

Social Media

Social media is neither bad nor good.

It all depends on the way people use it.

I’ve heard of people who experience negative feelings due to the usage of social media and I totally respect that but I can’t relate at all. I would even argue that these negative effects are good factors for character development. To me, it all depends on the way you handle it which is why I believe that instead of making people go off social media, we should focus more on building our emotional strength.

Creating a safe social media experience is not as beneficial as it may seem. I think that this may trap the person in a safe haven providing no room for development.
