project week #4 LO3

After the initial session, we also did a second session where we wanted to come up with alternative activities other than cycling. So I suggested cooking as I wanted to cook and I also wanted to learn how to cook various dishes. Hence I researched about verious cooking classes for students from our school, and outside of our school. Eventually I found one from Takashimaya called ABC cooking studio, which allowed me to contact them using my email and request them for their fees.

AHL CAS reflection LO7

An memorable experience I can remember is that time when my patient did not want to proceed with the Music Therapy. Either this is because he was not happy or he wasn’t in the mood that day. Despite my efforts he eventually completely ignored my conversation, so I had to come up with solutions. I faced an ethical problem however as I was conflicted on whether to satisfy their wishes and stop the music therapy as they did not like it, but in my heart I knew that this session would help him get back his emotions. Eventually I proceeded with the session however it was deemed unsuccessful as he clearly did not enjoy it. This was one of the most interesting experiences I had during this service.

CAS project #2 LO6

Our CAS project is about SDG 7, during this I got to reserach out various problems surrounding either the development of renewables such as costs, technological limitations, or the application problems such as beaureaucratic disputes, funding problems. I discovered that Singapore is in dire need of a source of clean energy as we have a small land area which isnt suitable for majority of clean energy sources. I found out that Singapore is trying to build a Sun Cable which pulls clean  solar energy from Australia. I also found out that this is a wide spread issue around the world, as many countries like Singapore faced similar probles like us for example Japan who was in a crisis as their views around nuclear energy was ruined by the 2011 Fukushima disaster

Project week CAS project #3 LO3

Our CAS project was on SDG 7, which is about increasing the use of renewable and having more access to cleaner energy around the world. This CAS project requires you to use your Group 4 subjects to come up with creative puzzles or quizzes in a part of an escape room. This was an interesting experience as I have never done this before. Since I was one of the only chemists in the room, I was put in charge of finding something to do with chemistry I could use in the puzzle room. First I was trying to figure out how I can maybe set up a chemistry quiz but however, after my supervisor brought out an interesting chemical called Sodium bicabonate, which reveals pink when exposed to phenopthalein, an indicator. I decided to write out some words using the indicator, which then got revealed as I sprayed the bicarbonate solution. I was proud of this activity as I thought it was very creative.

Project Week CAS #2 LO4

During one of our days, I think it was the cycling day I was struggling a lot. This is because we decided to cycle during the middle of the day. I got separated from the rest of the group since 2 of my members were ahead of me and 2 of them were slower, hence I was left in the middle of no where by myself. I had to show perseverance here in order to hopefully group up with my mates and not die, in the middle of Changi. This was a challenge as I had little to no water left and I still had 5km or so to go. This experience definetly made me a physically stronger but as well as mentally stronger since I learnt to cope with myself during this long cycle

Project week initial CAS reflection LO3

When I first met my group, we didn’t really know what to do during our 3 day project week. After hearing each others opinions, we decided to make a planning doc full of ideas, which included cooking, team building activity, and bicycle. I shoed initiative in the planning process as I was in charge of picking out the route of the cycling path. But unironically I haven’t cycled in 5 years, and with little knowledge of how to pick out a route, I tried researching around Singapore. This included going on many NEA websites to figure out popular routes for beginners and also intermidiates. We then decided to take the Marina ECP Changi Hougang route which was quite popular amongst other cyclists.

Body Pump #3 LO5

Body pump is often an individual experience, however in this reflection I would like to talk about how I collaborated with others to complete workouts etc. I found out the importance of collaboration due to how my Coach Sal helped me plan the workouts. When I first entre the gym, he would write out the plan for the day and what parts of the body we would focus on. This really helped me organise and also understand the importance of  self-management. Collaboration was also important as some workouts I didn’t understand, Sal would help me get through them or other experienced students would guide me through the movement.

Jazz Band #3 LO1

By joining the High school Jazz band, I have improved in many ways. Firstly I improved musically, since now I think I am able to deliver a complex solo through many pieces of music. At the beginning of this activity, my solos were bad, now through multiple practise sessions I have improved my solos by also training with my saxophone teacher. I have also improved in the ways which I lead my section. When we have sectional practise where we divide into groups, I am able to lead the group by indicating where we are struggling in the piece and suggesting methods to counter those. This allowed me to develop leadership as well as I needed to get the attention of my group to proceed with rehearsal.

Music therapy with Apex Harmony Lodge #3 LO6

While participating in a service that deals with dementia, it shows the global significance about dementia. While AHL is a Singaporean based organisation which deals with dementia, it is important to recognise that dementia affects almost every country in the world. This has a lot of global implications in what we do. During our service we cooperated with organisations around the world which aims to work on the same issues, and we also tried to communicate with them to develop a program for these types of music therapy. I think that this shows global significance.

My actions in this service overall had a positive impact on the local community as I was able to help people with dementia, even if it is for a short period of time. The fact that I was able to interact with these people also made me more caring as a result, since I had to make sure they had a positive experience
