Knit a square in family festival

LO3-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. Students can articulate the stages from conceiving an idea to executing a plan for a CAS experience or series of CAS experiences.

Even though “Knit a Square” changed from being a GC to being a focus group, our group has not changed our focus, we still working hard to raise awareness and knit for marginalised children in South Africa. With the family festival that happened in our school, it is a good opportunity to get resources donation as well get people to know more about our focus group and what we do. Supposedly, our group is a student-led activity but the teacher supervisor always lead us and support us, yet this time in the family festival as they had overlapping appointments, thus, it was on everybody in the team without our supervisor’s support. It was challenging as there were meeting to attend, resources and procedures that I was not familiar with and do not how to organise everything especially when my own personal schedule is packed as well. However, I worked together with other team members to help me organise the document and go to meeting alternatively as well check out what we need to do. It was a different experience and I learned how to be organised, responsible and the skills to plan something. Our team investigated and do some research on how to approach the parents in the family festival, we went early to prepare our space as well as everybody in the team took out their own time to cover at least a 30 minutes shift during the festival. In my opinion, the event was successful, even though we did not get many parents to visit us because of the decision to run the events happened in a short period of time, thus our location was compatible with our focus group. Nevertheless, we are going to get some donations for our focus group and get to talk to some parents and some squares were made during the events for my first event at the family festival. Moreover, now our focus is working on our first main event called “Knit-a-thon” that will happen on March the 26th and we are working hard to run the event successfully and hopefully we will get to do it every year.
