Every year, the FIB’s are assigned a service project that aligns with the UWC movement, which is to inspire the youth to work towards a better, more sustainable future for everyone.

Throughout our journey, we made two trips to Bintan to gather information and to teach the kids there. Alongside us was The Island Foundation, a charitable organization that works with the locals in Bintan to run a learning programme.

This year’s subject is Living in Bintan. We were put into groups and asked to come up with a topic related to it. After a long process, our group decided to teach the kids about songkets. Thinking about how to teach our lesson to the kids, we met with a Grade 1 teacher from UWC East as well as did some research on the web about class management strategies, memory games, and student presentations.  We then, after having discussions and advice from our Global Perspectives teacher, Mr.Hannah, made a lesson plan.
