BIOLOGY – My B1 Journey

Lesson 1: Mrs Gren

One word that describes my dominant emotion in this lesson was happy because we were making the MRSGREN videos and it was really fun and interesting at the same time. This learning point relates to the future because if someone ever asks me how can you tell if somehting is alive, you can remember MRSGREN which is Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition.

Lesson 2: How big is a cell?

One practical skill I found difficult was focusing the microscope becuase it’s been a while since I last used a microscope so remembering how was kind of difficult. I learnt more about plant and animal cells which was a really nice recap for me.

Lesson 3: Plant v. Animal Cells

Lesson 4:

One thing that I already knew was some of the organelles in plant and animal cells and their functions. One thing that I should really remember is the plant cell, some organelles and their functions and also the animal cells because although I knew them, I really need to review them.

Lesson 6: Osmosis

I feel like watching the video was the most useful thing for me because it really helped me solidify my understanding of osmosis and diffusion. My personal rating out of 5 for focus is 5, learning 3, and time keeping 5. My partner and I didn’t distract each other and I spent enough time in the beginning of class organising the lesson so that I could take a way the most from this lesson. I learnt a lot about hypotonic and hypertonic which was really interesting.

OVERALL – How Has the First Term Been

This term has been pretty normal and low key in my point of view for high school. We’ve started doing our activities and services and my service that I’ve been doing is the Equality focus group which concentrates on bringing awareness to our school and outside community. It’s really interesting because I’ve learnt so much about not only the LGBTQ+ community but also how to organise things and how to be a good facilitator of conversations. My other activity that I’ve been doing is Boxing. It’s a really nice escape at the end of the week and it’s also part of one of my personal goals. It’s something that I look forward to every week. I’ve also been invited to join the touch rugby pre-season team so that’s something I’m considering to do.

Academics wise, we’ve had a few test since it’s near the end of the term and I’ve been trying to do my best on them. One subject that I really like doing is Graphic Design. So far we’ve made our own personal logos with our initials and afterwards we made silhouettes from our side profiles and started to fill it with things that are important to us. Here’s a link to my padlet that we use for Design.     https://arteast.padlet.org/LAMCGRATH/MargaudNGUYEN#
