What have been the initial challenges of CAS?

Initially, after completing my activities sign-ups I found that I needed to be allocated another service as there were too few people who had signed up for my first choice. Therefore, instead of doing service in my free I decided to sign up for the same service that I took part in during GCSE: Peacehaven Bedok. Seeing as the timing for the service fit well with my schedule, and would take place right before my rock climbing on Tuesday – I decided that this was the best option.

Another challenge that I have encountered includes retaining a good balance in my schedule as I feel as though I need to develop better time management skills. For instance, after signing up for Culturama – I had not taken into account the extra rehearsals that would be necessary closer to the Culturama performance. As I had chosen to complete all of my CAS requirements in the first two seasons of grade 11, it proved slightly difficult at times trying to find the time for friends, schoolwork, and CAS.

What are the possible solutions to these challenges?

Not to mention, by signing up for the same service that I took part in last year, I felt that this would show good consistency across my service records. Also, I would already be familiar with the goals and expectations of the service in terms of meeting the needs of elderly clients, as well as the likely challenges that would be faced. This, in turn, could allow me to take on a leadership role within the service due to my prior experience.

With regards to the second challenge I faced, a possible solution could be to make use of the time in my frees to complete homework or other IB tasks. Also, I feel as though if I am not able to cope with the workload during the first two seasons of grade 11 especially, it could prove beneficial for me to drop one of the activities. Even though I would have to sign up for an additional replacement activity during seasons 3 and 4, I would have my CAS requirements spaced out over a longer period.
