For my sports activity, I chose to continue taking part in Rock Climbing outside of school as I wanted to continue training for upcoming competitions in 2020 that I had been working towards for the past 2 years. Having quit gymnastics at the start of grade 10, I started to train at Kinetics climbing. After around 6 months, I enrolled in my first competition and ever since have found a great love for the sport. Now, competing at an intermediate level with climbers of all ages, I am working towards promoting to the open category, which is the level at which national climbers compete.

As climbing is a sport that involves a lot of self-motivation and self-drive, I have been expected to maintain my training regime of conditioning and endurance exercises not only in the climbing gym but outside as well. The sport has taught me to have determination and resilience even when faced with routes that may seem challenging, or days where my body and fingers feel numb from conditioning exercises. Not being part of a team sport, it is sometimes hard to stay on track and remain motivated as no one will push you to do better but yourself.

Looking to the year ahead, I would like to ensure that I am maintaining a good balance between school, training, and friends. This means that I will have to develop good self-management and time-management skills in order to meet deadlines, maintain healthy relationships with friends, and reach the aims/objectives I have set myself in climbing.
