In my second conversation about my EE with my supervisor, we discussed the structure of my essay. He mentioned how my introduction and points were not clear enough as I was not being specific, for example, which part of American comics am I looking at, which are superheroes. I focused too much on drawing upon different areas of manga and comics that I sometimes forget to refocus – I would need to mention what things I am dealing and not. He also suggested I could talk about the varied functions of the artwork more – the purpose of the storytelling and visual elements, the upbringing of manga and American superhero comics. Lastly, he suggested to directly compare artworks more so my point is clearer, and that I add flowcharts for clarity of the time periods and influences. I now have a clearer sense of what I need to focus on more specifically, such as the origins of manga and American comics, the colours, the layouts.
