This novel being seen as misrepresentation lies largely in the inauthenticity of its creators. While somewhat trope, the characterisation of women such as Elena Blanco would not be considered problematic if written by a woman. The manner in which the authors behind ‘Carmen Mola’ hid behind this pseudonym to write largely about women may be the reason why this may be troubling to some. This is further exacerbated by the fact that this is three men, not one. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with writing under a pseudonym or writing about characters unfamiliar to you. But the manner in which the men purposely crafted and manipulated a female persona in order to hide their true identities speaks to their awareness of how it would be received.
