Vulnerability- Syakir Ryli on SG Narratives

After spending an entire day on Youtube, the founders of SG Narratives realized that Singapore’s youtube content is limited to humorous videos and various lists of food and activity recommendations. Syakir, one of the founders, says, “We are capable of more authentic conversations, because we are all survivors of human pain.” This lead them to creating SG Narratives, a social media channel that hopes to promote the need for honest conversations between people. They have partners ask each other difficult questions, in hopes to address difficult conversations that are usually neglected.

SG Narratives shares these conversations on their Youtube, aiming to; at their worst, inspire empathy amongst audiences, and at their best, form a bridge a between people with contradicting ideas.  They believe that, “Vulnerability is the birthplace of empathy and connection, if you are brave enough to use it.” This brings up questions  to peace builders such as, ‘what types of topics should we be addressing?’, ‘how do we moderate these intimate conversations?’ SG Narratives have found a great way to address these issues, one that we, as peace builders, can mirror in our daily lives.
