All of the people that I have interacted with have helped to shape the way I speak today. Learning English in Australia really shaped my foreign accent, and upon moving to Singapore, it solidified further. Everybody has something to share in terms of language, whether it’s new vocabulary, a different accent, or even a completely new language. Listening to people speaking in their own mother tongues is so fascinating, and reminds me why I love to learn languages. The world is such a diverse place, filled with so many wonderful cultures. Language helps to define a social group and creates a more vibrant atmosphere in which people feel free to express themselves. Language plays a massive role in defining who I am because verbally expressing my thoughts is tremendously important to me. I am also keen on learning new languages by myself and I enjoy studying them in my free time.
Most importantly, language helps me to convey my ideas, and connect with the people that I care about the most. Being diverse with languages allows you to have a wider range of opportunities, and gives you the ability to reach out to more people.
