Donald Trump’s fear of Spanish reveals the power in our language
This article talks about how your the way you speak is part of your identity, and how no one has the right to take that away from you. I agree wholeheartedly with the message that this author is trying to convey. In my opinion, Nationalism and white supremacy has been getting out of hand lately. Your identity is something that belongs to you, and no one is under the obligation to behave in any certain way. There are certain respectable rules that we follow in society, but changing yourself under someone else’s request is not one of them. Everyone is entitled to their own culture, thoughts, accent, language, or whatever else it might be. Assimilation is not a mandatory process, it is something that individuals feel forced to do. “Fitting in”, “being cool” these are all things that people have imposed on themselves, and I believe that it is ultimately ruining our society. Uniqueness is not something we should be discouraging, rather it is something we should be appreciating. Celebrate yourself for who you are, and embrace all the quirks and different things about your personality. Do not let any one else set limits for you, or tell you what you are capable of. You are irreplaceable.

This is my favourite line from your post: “Celebrate yourself for who you are, and embrace all the quirks and different things about your personality.” It’s so true. So often we are trying to be the same as everyone else instead of being proud of how we’re different. Thanks for reminding me how important this is.
