I finished reading the book human acts and it was much harder to read than anticipated. The way that Han Kang wrote this book was brutal, but it did leave an impact. The book would not have been as good without the detailed description of the horrible things that occurred during the uprising. Below, I have taken some notes on what Human Acts really is about and what concepts relate to it.
Human Acts-First Thoughts + Context
ELP, Human ActsWe have just started reading a book called Human Acts that is written by South-Korean author, Han Kang. Because this was a very deep topic about a horrible event that occurred in Korea during the 1980s, I wrote some notes to give me some context of what happened. In class we also read the first chapter together and had to write our initial thoughts about the book.
Consolation-Wislawa Szymborska
ELP, Wislawa SzymborskaThis is a poem by Wislawa Szymborska that is called “Consolation”. At first I annotated this poem and then I took a look at what the translator’s notes were and highlighted some key ideas. Reading the translator’s notes helped to get a deeper perspective or opinion of what this poem really is about and it made me realise a lot of new things about the poem that I didn’t realise before.
G11 Mocks Paper 1 CAT
ELP, Paper 1For this CAT I chose to write a guided analysis of the poem. This poem was by Norman Nicholson and it was called 'Rising Five'. I had to answer the question: How are poetic techniques used to depict attitudes about time? The pictures below is my response.
I also wrote corrections to my introduction, 2nd body paragraph and conclusion after I received feedback for my writing. My corrections are seen in the picture below.
Fun Home-Censorship
ELP, Fun HomeCensorship plays a big role in a book like Fun Home, especially since the whole story of the the main characters are controversial. Fun Home has many graphic scenes and is quite vocal about the sexuality of characters. When it was published, some people weren’t comfortable with homosexuality and did not accept it. However, Fun Home would not be as good of a book if it censored every little thing as the story would have no impact or connection to the reader.
