Grade 9 Personal Statement

My name is Mohnish Raghu, and though the name sounds very exotic I have only ever lived in one country. Though some may say this is a setback, I consider this an asset. Living in Singapore all my life allowed me to get accustomed to the culture and with the people who live in it. Through my years of living in Singapore, I have gained a comprehensive more global sense through which to view the world. By living and learning amongst a diverse group of people I have learned the importance of empathy and discovered the importance of communication. By working amongst a group of people with who I wasn’t always capable of interacting with, I learned that communication or at least a form of connection had to made in order for success.

I have a belief that we must leave something to be remembered by. Though I haven’t achieved or done much, I have had the opportunity to make several projects of my desires. As long as I remember, I have had a love and a passion for making things I want and enjoy. Through learning and using the equipment of the Design and Technology department I have learned many useful and compelling skills that allow me to gain insight on the creation of better quality and more effective products to suit my desires. This, however, hasn’t only been a journey of success. I have learned the importance of perseverance and enjoyed the satisfaction of solving a problem that takes a lot of effort and time.

There aren’t many objects that mean a whole lot to me. A photo album sitting in the middle of a bookshelf tucked away like the rest of the books. The album contains many printed snapshots of years that have passed by. Each page coated in a thin layer of dust, like varnish on wood. The album glows, with every memory imprinted into the pictures on each page. I’ve always hated looking back and reflecting on past experiences, I have always looked at it as a waste of time. But as I come to a pause in my high school journey, even though it isn’t the end of the journey I reflect and look back on the past year with indulgence.
