In this NY Times article, Jack Nicas describes the increase in prices for hand sanitisers and masks, on sites like Amazon and eBay. This brings up the question is it immoral to increase the price of such goods during a crisis like the recent coronavirus? Though people may argue it is fair for companies to increase prices as it allows the most efficient producers and firms to function and in some ways allows these individuals on amazon and eBay to continue to make a living. In crises such as the coronavirus pandemic sanitary products like masks and hand sanitizers become essential and a necessity, especially for those less unfortunate. Thus, I think that it is immoral as it discriminates against those who are not fortunate enough to buy these products. In addition to this, these products help prevent the virus from further spreading in communities, and so should be supplied to everyone at a low price.
