Ballet 8.1.19

It was difficult to get back to doing dance after a three week break.  Our teacher changed all the combinations in barre, centre, and pointe, each being part of this year’s exam and being more technically challenging.

This class was intimidating because I had missed the first two classes of this year and did not know any one the new combinations. Allegro 1 and 2  was hard to follow and learn on the spot. Even though there is not much travelling in both excersises, I was not able to remember all the linking steps correctly and positions of arms. Also, the adage has become faster and ends with 7 pique turns. Most of the distinct changes from the intermediate foundation syllabus to the intermediate course is musicality in movements. Many of the combinations especially in centre emphasises on fluidity. Notably, in the arms and hands, upper body, and direction of the head is accentuated.

My main objective for this month is to focus on remembering the steps correctly and having more control on my movement. Hopefully, I can improve my footwork for the faster sequences such as petite battement and allegro 1. I think my motivation has been the fact that everyone in our class passed their RAD intermediate foundation exams including me. It feels amazing to be able to say that because the entire class has worked very hard for this (LO4) Currently, I am not sure if I will be taking the exam in September due to the fact that I will be out of the country for 8 weeks during the summer break and won’t be able to train properly in the month after break. But right now I’m looking forward to what will come in the next 5 months!
