Improved Sanitation and Life Expectancy

I do think that improved sanitation and life expectancy does correlate with each other because supposedly, the higher the percentage of improved sanitation, the higher the life expectancy (or further to the left). I believe that this is because sanitation is one of the key points into a higher life expectancy, whereas if the sanitation is poor, there would be a higher risk of diseases, which decreases the life expectancy.

Medical Doctors and Infant Mortality Rate

This data did correlate with each other. The higher the number of medical doctors available, the lower the number of infant mortality rate. This can be shown by the three countries in which Norway has a higher number of medical doctors so it is placed higher and the infant number mortality rate is lower so therefore, it is placed more on the left side. I suppose that the reason that the two indicators correlate is because if there are a bigger number of medical doctors, the infant mortality rate should increase due to the fact that there are supposedly more hospitals and doctors to help with the birth and care of these babies that are very vulnerable at that age.

Education and Employment

Because the data is quite old (a decade), I think that it is not accurate enough to justify whether or not the two sections correlate together. Although, from this data, it can be seen that the higher the percentage of children that has completed primary school, the higher the employment rate. Countries with a higher percentage of primary school completion will be placed more on the top while those with a higher percentage of employment rate should be placed further in the right hand side. I believe that when a country has given its people access to the basic needs of education, they also have given them a future. If more children are required to complete primary school, I believe that some may be inspired to continue their education. Additionally, the higher the education level, the more job opportunities are given to the person, especially with jobs that involves organisations and companies.

A strategy

There are multiple strategies t that may help improve conditions of countries that are lagging behind. For education, a way to improve it is to have a program for teachers to teach in a more understandable way and a suitable way for the children, depending on their age. For example, applying more interactive activities for children younger in age or an activity that may require students to recite what they have learned the past day to strengthen their memories. Also, perhaps access to education and schools can be improved such adding more schools that students that live in a further are may be able to reach. Moreover, sanitation can be improved by having a program to educate those about the importance of sanitation or help build proper toilets and water filter to obtain fresh and healthy water. Last of all, for life expectancy, medical doctors can be thought more professionally on their area as well as medical equipment. Building more hospitals and easier access to hospitals are also ways to help the people of the country during emergencies.

  1. Hi Yeon Seo, some interesting correlations here with the beginnings of explanations. I also think your strategies are thoughtful and very specific. It would be interesting to see whether other countries fit the pattern: if you look at all the countries together are the correlations still as strong?
