Moving forward in Economeast

L01:  Identifying own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

For economeast this year, I have found myself getting frustrated on multiple occasions. For our second round of articles, the members of the activity have been quite disorganised. Knowing that this would be a busy term for me, I planned ahead and made sure that my article was ready before the term started and I could focus my efforts towards editing other people’s articles. However, no other member of the group had their article ready even by the set due dates and therefore I could not do my second role of editing in the allocated time. This was particularly frustrating since I had a lot of other things going on and did not have the time to edit the other articles whenever they were ready. I attempted to fix this problem by talking to the leaders of the activity, yet; individuals still did not complete the work on time. I think that looking forward I need to understand that it was beneficial that I got my work done ahead of time, but I need to be more flexible when it comes to work that is dependant on others.

Importance of Human Interaction in Service

L05: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

In service, we had a couple sessions just to reflect on everything and help make us more aware of the people we are working with. To do this, each of us took turns to walk around school with a blindfold on to experience what the kids who come to our school would feel like. I felt as though this was a very important exercise to allow us to even partially comprehend the lives of the children we are working with. One thing that I realised that I normally take for granted is the use of other people. I found it so essential to have some constantly speaking to me and helping me while walking and the moment I would lose their voice I would feel scared and alone. So hear I was able to appreciate communication and collaboration in different way and understand how the simple voice of someone can give you so much comfort.

Attached is a video of me walking with the blindfold:

Perseverance in Basketball

L04: Show commitment to and perseverance in your CAS experiences

For this season in basketball, I feel as though I have show a lot of commitment to my team and this has definitely reaped rewards. All of our ACSIS games finished before the December break, however; we still had training before SEASAC. During this time, many people found excuses to stop coming to the training or did not take it as seriously as before. However, I showed up to every training session in order for my personal improvements. In fact, because of this, even though I was not the best played on the team, I was able to be on the starting 5 for our Friday nights light game just because of my perseverance. This made me feel really motivated to do well and keep up the commitment as I finally saw the results from my hard work.

Attached is a clip from the game.
