[CAS PROJECT] Creating a chamber music club – Stage 3

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics implications of choices and actions

After coming to an agreement, we were able to move forward by emailing the TutHouse students regarding our goals and purpose of our chamber music club, as well as attached a form for people to ‘sign up’ if they were interested. As we had enough people interested for our club, we then started planning to conduct an informal ‘audition’ where those who signed up would essentially meet us at a lunch time to perform a piece they were working on so we could roughly identify everyone’s skill level and start thinking about potential groups that could form. However, we realised that spring break was approaching soon and we would be busy with preparations for our finals when we come back from the break, therefore I suggested that the ‘auditions’ had to be sorted and done beforehand so that we would ultimately be ready to go for the first semester back in T4 (G12), which exemplifies my time management skills. It was also vital to consider the ethicality of our actions when ultimately placing people into groups and to make sure that there were no biases – making sure people were exploring pieces they were interested in and had the opportunity to work with different instruments and musicians.

However, while we were planning out how the ‘audition’ process was going to pan out, I had to move back to Singapore and therefore it was important for us to discuss how the club was going to proceed. We brainstormed a few possibilities.. 1) Sean can continue to proceed with the ‘auditions’ and then begin forming the groups with repertoire. 2) We could consider someone else that is interested in our club to replace me, preferably someone from T1-T2 (G9-10) so that we could potentially pass on the club to that person in the future when we graduate. 3) The last option would be to put the club on hold, which is not something we desired because we both really want to create this opportunity for students in the TutHouse (high school). We ultimately settled with option 1, while having option 2 in the back of our minds – Sean would be considering who would be a good fit as a leader for the club. I think that it was really important that we always discussed everything, even the little aspects, because we would always be informed, understand what we are both thinking and be open and honest with each other, which was necessary during this entire process.
