It has been about six months since I started in Urban Gardening Propagation, and the activities are quite as I had expected. I have not had much to do with plants and gardening before, so it is definitely exciting to learn something completely new – especially gardening since it requires more hands-on experience compared to subjects or activities where you can improve your skills by reading about it, which is why the service is such a good place to start. The more experienced members are very helpful when explaining how to do certain things and open to ‘stupid’ questions. It makes it a safe space, where I feel, I can be vulnerable regarding my strengths and weaknesses, and that I hope to bring into other areas of my life. Usually, I am quite conscious when it comes to mistakes, so it is nice letting go a little.

I have been chosen to be responsible for our service’s blog, and I believe it is because I have been showing commitment and engagement in the service, which I am proud of 😀 I like having some responsibility and to feel needed/that others are dependent on my work.

When starting, I was not aware that some grade 10s would be joining us, but it was really nice working collaboratively with the younger grade, and I am looking forward to the grade nines coming as well. Both the Urban Gardening Propagation and Kahaani have made it easier for me to talk to the younger grades, without seeming like they are children – even though they only are 1-2 years younger, I feel a big difference in maturity and independence between us, so being able to communicate and have a joyful and fun relation with younger teens is really nice – a new skill I was not expected to learn
