Service Reflection – My Learning

What is Hands On?

Hands On is compromised of a team of people who come together each week to manage donations from staff, parents, and students. Members of Hands On organize these donations in order to help Global Concerns transport them to the organizations they are involved with.

How did the service impact the community?

I think that Hands On has had quite a positive impact on our community. It has given everyone an opportunity to give back and support a cause that would ultimately help people in need all around the world, by creating an outlet for parents, students, and staff somewhere to bring their used items rather than just throwing them away. Furthermore, the money raised during the service fair has done into the shared Global Concern account and will benefit any service that chooses to use it greatly.

What skills did you develop through your service?

Throughout the course of this service, I have developed many skills including teamwork, organization, and management. All these skills are very valuable as they do not only apply to school and could be useful in almost any situation. I believe that whatever career path I chose,  the experiences that I have acquired in the service will help me with future projects because the most important parts of working on projects either alone or in a group is teamwork, organization, and management.
