Global Perspectives – Faith, Ethics and Ideology Essay

This was a paragraph from my faith, ethics and ideology essay :

The article seeks to provoke thought about what goes on in a juveniles mind who end up taking drastic, fatal steps as a coping mechanism to escape parental admonishment and academic performance pressure. This kind of behaviour is seen of students from local schools in Singapore and has increased rapidly over the years. The Primary 5, 11 year old student has had his mid – year tests scoring average grades in most subjects ( 50 for english, 53.8 for chinese, 57.5 for science ) in addition to failing in two ( 12 for higher chinese and 20.5 for maths ). ( Shaffiq Alkhatib ). Unable to cope what he saw in his report card and fearing punishment from his parents mainly his mother, the student plummeted to his death after jumping from his window on the 17th floor. On May 18th, 2016 was when the student was supposed to show his mid – year grades to his parents. ( Amir Hussain ). It was 6:50 in the morning when his father realised that his son was taking unusually long to get dressed and come out of his room. The room was opened with the spare key and the boy was not to be found anywhere. His 16 year old sister looked out of the window to find his body in a pool of blood on the floor. The police then investigated. The school teachers affirmed that the tests were a little more harder than the previous year, but yet the mother on the other hand expected more out of her son, expecting him to score above 70 percent. For her, this was the least she expected out of her son. ( Vanessa Paige Chelvan ).
