Grade 11- Maths and Me

My previous maths experience includes CIM(0607) and Additional Maths(0606). Some feelings that I associate with mathematics include enthusiasm and passion. Ever since my early years, I have been interested in maths and pursuing it further. Nevertheless, I am feeling nervous about the rigour in HL Maths, as previously heard from senior students and teachers. On the continuum, I would place myself somewhere in between because whilst I like to work out things on my own, I also believe that teacher explanation is equally crucial. When I am posed with a challenge on a question, I usually try to re-attempt it several times and eventually refer to the textbook for help. If I am still not able to work it out, I leave the question for some time and come back to it. In due course, I seek help from my teacher. My biggest strengths are being diligent and organised in my study of maths; I am committed to reviewing concepts learnt in class and completing homework assignments or extra practice. My biggest area for focus includes being creative as I often don’t explore a range of methods so I think it may be useful to think from a different angle, this will also help for future assignments such as the IA. I have been participating in the SEAMC club for several years and went to the Jakarta Competition last year. Alongside this, I have participated in other competitions yet at times have had to persevere with the difficulty level of competition maths.

    Thanks for your comments.
Yep – well done for noting the need for trying multiple methods – that will be essential in the HL course. I hope you continue with competition maths. This is actually great practice for this.
Also I love reading the words ‘passion’ and ‘enthusiasm’. Put those together with some good old-fashioned hard work and the battle is won!
