I have personal engagement as I want to analyse the human geographic implications of being a Non-Resident Indian in Singapore, and this will enable me to understand my experience of assimilating into the population yet maintaining my cultural practices, through others’ experiences. The biggest adversity I faced was weaving all the information into a focused study area and thus I had to persevere by tracking down useful sources whilst highlighting clear connections to my research question. I have been able to hone my self-management skills when working towards my goal. The discussion allowed me to refine my question to give it scope for evaluation. I wanted to also focus on the Indian diaspora bridging a connection between ASEAN and Singapore; it was difficult to push aside intriguing points. Nonetheless, I learnt to be more open-minded to accept limitations of the essay. The discussion enabled me to identify a spatial element, Little India, a microcosm of India for my data collection.
