Project- Kahaani – Stage 1 and 2

Stage 1 and 2: Investigation and Preparation

Stage 1 was mainly about the investigation; the initial sign up and investigation of the activity. We were first informed about the opportunity through email, and if we were interested, we were told to watch the audition video and send in an audition. This was to express interest of being a dance leader for Kahaani. In order to investigate what the activity really entailed, we had to look at past years videos and check our schedules and calendars to make sure we would have enough time to put into this. After we were sure of this, we were told to send an audition video, choreographing a part of it to show them that we had the ability to choreograph dances for the actual showcase. Once that was done, we were informed that we had been selected 🙂

Stage 2 was about preparation; planning the experience. After we had been selected, we had to start looking into different dances and making sure that we had an idea of songs/steps we wanted to do. The theme of this years performances was “physical disabilities”. There was a lot related to LO6- engaging with issues related to global importance. Kolkata GC deals with people who have physical disabilities, and raising awareness about disabilities. This show used to be an opportunity to raise funds to send over to the global concerns that they dealt with back in India, however due to COVID it was not possible to ticket the show this year, so we had to work a lot more on the awareness part of it. It is very important to raise awareness about these issues and kahaani is an amazing way of doing so. The preparation involved looking for songs to match the main theme and making sure we had an idea of the way we wanted our dances to look. Another LO that was quite relevant in this part of the process was LO3- planning and initiating activities. Especially during this stage, planning for the future and any future complications/difficulties that could arise was very important. After planning the activity and how we wanted everything to look, we had to start the actual choreography of the steps. Along with this, we obviously had to keep in mind the COVID restrictions and social distancing limitations. Although this was initially challenging, once we had an idea of what moves and steps would work, we were able to see how we could improve certain areas of the dance.
