Role of Genetics on Determining One’s Character

In yesterday’s class, we completed the presentations about nature vs nurture on the topics of violence, intelligence, bipolar disorder, depression and sexuality. After the presentation, it has consolidated my thoughts toward the impact of the environment on ones build up of personality and traits. However, it also explored my thinking on the aspects and the role of genetic makeups that may determine some of our traits without even knowing it ourselves. When thinking about myself, I still do think that most of my characteristics are determined by the environment and the education I received from a young age. After giving it a bit of thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that the genes definitely do play a very big part in determining a person’s traits to a certain extent, but I still do think that it may be changeable by the long term environment that this person will mature in.
