Project Week 2020

LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

LO6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Although we could not physically go to project week 2020, our planning process was still very valuable. It was my first time planning for a meaningful trip solely by myself and I developed many skills, my organisation skills in particular. As I took on the leadership role within our project week group, I developed my leadership skills by being more facilitative than authoritative. I thought this was a very unique experience for everyone, therefore I ensured everyone’s voice was being heard and all their opinions were taken into account before making decisions. Through contacting our service partners in Thailand, I developed my organisation skills as I had to think of the logistics and have a detailed plan of what was going to happen when. It was very crucial to communicate well with our service partner to make sure we were on the same page, therefore I organised frequent emails and kept a copy of our communication so that I could easily refer back to it in the future when thinking about booking transport etc. We chose Children’s Shelter Foundation as our service partner, whose aim is to help children and young adults from mountain villages in Thailand and Myanmar to break the circle of poverty. We were thinking of going there to facilitate with their english teaching program as well as bringing donations such as textbooks etc. This is definitely an issue of global significance as we recognise that poverty is cyclical, and education is the most effective way of breaking such cycle. Therefore, we wanted to do our small part in combatting this big issue that many people face. By making small progresses, maybe our actions can lead to a bigger change that makes a difference in someone’s life.
