We have made such a great and evident progress in our rehearsals, both in our instrumental skills and ensemble cooperation. We had our first performance of the year, Wavelengths, and was a great success. The strings performed one piece, then the whole orchestra performed another, and finally, the HS Orchestra combined with the MS Orchestra to perform our piece for the finale. Compared to last year, we had a huge increase in the number of flutists, which meant that the flute section became more significant and prominent. Because I play the 2nd flute part, it is relatively easier to play compared to the 1st flute part. I’ve realized that practicing alone and rehearsing together as a whole is very different as playing with the whole orchestra requires adjustments in pitch, tempo, dynamics and such qualities of music to enhance the quality of our performance.
