Ibsen words from 1878 highlighted this issue, “A woman cannot be herself in the society of the present day, which is an exclusively masculine society, with laws framed by men and with a judicial system that judges feminine conduct from a masculine point of view.” He talked about how the tough rules created by men make things so hard for women as they are made to be more submissive.
Ibsen’d words are still relevant, as equality is one of the main aims in the world right now. A barrier many people are trying to fight past, to get a better, safer environment. Gender inequality, inequality for all religions, etc. These are some basic examples of Human Rights problems that the world is fighting.
These situations have been improved over the time by a lot. I think countries like Singapore have gotten very far in being able to rid themselves of these societal norms. Countries like India have also gotten very far in providing the people with more justice and equality. But still, there are families that cannot stand the thought of girls being independent and equal to men or any other faith taking rise in a community. I have seen people who keep women hidden, taking away their right of freedom of speech, etc. Women are still believed to be a burden for a few families in villages.
I personally, haven’t faced any inequality but I do know that these issues exist and are a big problem that has to be worked on. Considering all these aspects, I think the world has come very far in providing equal rights to all humans, but some people still need to put in more effort into this issue to reach the goal of an equal planet.
