I thoroughly enjoyed researching my EE topic. While my investigation displayed insignificant correlations, upon reflection, the reasons for such results were found to be insightful towards factors influencing antibiotic resistance. A different approach for investigating this topic would involve a country specific study on factors like exports, and waste treatment. This would allow a deeper evaluation of the effects of consumption of antibiotics on the resistance developed as they would differ based on such factors. While researching, I found that correlations between consumption and resistance of antibiotics cannot be directly achieved since there are multiple factors after consumption that influence resistance. The units of measurement used were the most accurate measures available at present which ensures highest reliability achievable currently. However, they are estimates which was also a hurdle encountered during the investigation. I would advise other students who undertake the Biology EE to research the availability of consistent data early in the process to ensure that their research questions can be well investigated.
