What do we do?

This Service partners with Salvation Army Peacehaven Bedok Day Center centre to enable seniors to lead active and meaningful lives. Between 1965 and 2015, Singapore’s population grew from 1.9 million to 5.5 million. However, the number of citizens aged 65 and above is increasing rapidly, as population growth slows. The size of this group of citizens doubled from 220,000 in 2000 to 440,000 in 2015, and is expected to increase to 900,000 by 2030. Students find out the needs and interests of the elderly residents from HDB flats in Bedok. Students collaborate with the staff at the Salvation Army Peacehaven Bedok Day Center to meet the needs and interests of the elderly residents. Staff train the students to use the fitness equipment specially catered for the needs of the elderly, along with that students collaboratively plan fun activities for the elderly that help develop their motor skills. Over the course of the year, students develop trust and friendship with the members and planning and communication skills. We support the good health sustainable development goal and work towards attaining it through this service.
