I learned from this lesson that social media are able to raise awareness very quickly. In al-Qunun’s case, almost immediately after she posted her “help” tweet, organizations such as the Human Rights Watch noticed and spread even more awareness through other social media and websites. Since social media are “open”, thus people can see all of the posts without much of the government’s intervention. Therefore, the digital world helps people a lot in human rights protection and spreading awareness.
