There are three perspectives on “who should be responsible for addressing climate change? “:
1. “Past Emitters Must Pay”
2. “Responsibility must be shared by all”
3. “Economic Growth and Development Must Come First”
I agree with the 2nd perspective that supports the idea that the responsibility of limiting climate change must be shared by all of the countries.
The Representative from Oxfam has the same views as me, we believe that
- All countries need to aid to fix the current situation
- Climate Change is an urgent global problem that requires leaders from around the world to come together and reach an international agreement.
I also feel this way because the responsibility of reducing climate change and the increase of greenhouse gas emissions is equal among all of the countries. It is just that some countries might prioritize other things than issues regarding climate change.
These characteristics are shown the most among those developing countries, who wish to solve problems like reducing poverty, level of unemployment, stimulate economic growth, national food distribution and so on, and the problems of climate change is far down the list. Which might not be taken action on in a decade or so.
Developed countries on the other hand, such as Denmark, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, are taking the lead to use 100% renewable energy domestically.
The point I am trying to make is that every country should contribute to this global action of fighting climate change. The only thing is that developing countries such as India might not contribute a lot because of their disability and lack of capacity to do so. However, as long as countries come together and face the problem instead of ignoring it, the situation will eventually get better and better.
The course of action I am going to make towards the issue is that there should be another summit similar to the Paris Climate Conference in 2015. However, in the conference, no mention of the carbon tax, and no penalties. They are afraid that little actions are going to be taken. In this conference that I am suggesting, I hope that rules and regulations should be taken instead of mentioning no means of accomplishing the goal. And in regard of the developed and developing countries, the level of regulations should be different taken in considering of the country’s current situation (like mentioned above, the example of India) And this will eventually “force” countries to take actions, and solve the problem and reduce climate change. I feel that we should do this step by step instead of no actions taken.
I feel that this would be a problem-solving solution towards the problem, with my “Responsibility must be shared by all” ideology in mind.
