English LangLit Intro

With a new Language and Literature course this year, I am looking forward to exploring the connections between what we learn in English and the world around us. I think what we learn in English is going to give us another perspective to view different topics on and I am excited to learn and discover the way my learning in English class relates to the other things that go on in my life. Personally, I am also looking forward to going into depth on the main concepts we are going to cover. Transformation, representation, communication, identity, perspective, culture and creativity.

In terms of global issues, I look forward to seeing the relevance in what we learn and the concepts we cover and how it interlocks to give us a perspective on real-world problems. I feel that, although we feel we may know much about the world, there may always be another side to look at, and this course may give us an insight into that. As I enjoy reading books with perspective, I think many topics we cover in English this year is going to be enjoyable considering we will be exploring the idea of different view points and considering real views in the world.

I would have to say one of my favourite books I have read has been ‘All the Bright Places’ by Jennifer Niven. What I enjoyed most about this book is the idea of different perspectives and reading the same story through the eyes of different characters. I feel something this says about me is that I am a person who likes to consider different perspectives and likes to take a step back to look at different points of views through different peoples shoes. Another example of a book I enjoy that follows a similar concept is ‘The sun is also a star’ and ‘Eleanor and Park’.

I am glad you are looking forward to the course Tanisha! Can you apply any of the concepts we have discussed so far to All the Bright Places?
