LO3 INITIATIVE: SkySchool

Recently, we had our UWC day in which everyone in the school dresses up in our cultural outfits. This week is normally a very busy week for me as it involves the participation of focus groups to organise events in the plaza for UWC day. Being part of a couple of focus groups, I had the ability to take some of my ideas from one focus group to another. To begin with, I was at GEP (Generation Education Period) and I noticed that one of the ideas we had brainstormed was not going into use. Because of this, I decided to use this idea for my other focus group, SkySchool. This idea involved a game of Twister integrated with situations experienced by refugees.

Although we organised our event very thoroughly, the execution of our event did not turn out good. This is because of extraneous variables like rain fall accompanied by congestion of space. During the event, we decided not to pay a large amount of attention the fact that owe could not get many people to play the game as more people were paying attention the performances taking place. Moreover, we realised that people were enjoying the event in the moment. This meant that we need to look on the bright side and appreciate the fact that the issues of our Focus Group were acknowledged but at the same time people were vibrantly celebrating the main idea of the event – diversity. I believe that we responded positively to the changes.
