EE Reflection 1

Before my first meeting, I had done some research on the topics that I have put forward related to dance. It was really hard for me to find resources since almost all of my questions were so vague, in which my supervisor seems to agree as well. We spent an hour exploring the different ideas that I would want to write my EE since my questions were too vague, and was hard to find resources for those questions. When I first started my research, I thought it wasn’t gonna be as hard but too my surprise it was actually harder than I thought. After having my first meeting with my supervisor I still haven’t finalized my research question and still wasn’t certain on what exactly I want to research and write. After doing further research, I set up another meeting with my supervisor to go through the idea that I am interested in researching and writing about. I know that I wanted to do my research on something that’s related to African Dance, so that was the main focus for me going to the meeting. Developing a research question based around the African Dance.

Behind The Beautiful Forevers

I am so happy that I am able to be part of such a big school production, apart from AIDA I’ve never been part of another big school production. I am really looking forward to the whole experience of it all. I think one thing that I’m really looking forward to is that working with people that I’ve never had the chance to work with before. And also just looking to the whole process, in terms of “how did they come with this?”, “How did they think of that?”, etc. Because in AIDA it’s so different since it’s musical and there was a whole lot of singing, but with Behind the beautiful forever, I am very excited to just step outside my comfort zone and just get on with it.

In this play I have two characters, I am playing a young name Rahul whose 15 years old and I am also playing an Officer. I am really excited because I have never played two individual characters in a play before. I think for me, its gonna be a challenge to switch between my characters in terms of how they speak, how they walk, etc. But I am really excited, I always love a good challenge especially if I’m gonna be doing something that I love.

Service – Tampines Minds

During the service meeting, we talked about all the things that need to be aware of while we are playing, interacting, dancing with special people (service partner). We all did some research on the sickness that they have or might have and tried to find ways in which we can make sure that we would know what to do and not do.

So the first session was leaning more towards preparing what we needed to prepare for when we meet our service partner in the following week. We did a good job of preparing for when we were going to meet them, I was actually really very excited. I was looking forward to it.

The reason why I chose Tampines Minds (Dance And Fitness Fun) was that I love dancing, whenever I’m dancing I just feel really happy even when I’m in a bad mood or something. I also wanted to share what I love with people who may not have many opportunities as I am, so I am very happy that chose this service because not only that I get to do what I love, I am also sharing love and happiness with some very special people.

Dragons Volleyball Club

I signed for the Dragons Volleyball club because I wanted to better my skills and improve them. Since I was in the Varsity team last year, I really wanted to improve my skills because I want to play varsity again next school year.

Being part of the Dragons Volleyball Club really helped me improved a lot, especially with doing a jump serve, hitting downwards, getting the perfect pass, etc.

Coming into the dragons volleyball club, I was actually very excited and ready, very focused. With my experience with the varsity team last year, I was able to help coach other players and helping them out with anything.

I am very happy that I joined the Volleyball Dragons Club, because not only did I improve on myself as a player, I was also able to help others when they needed help. So I am very happy with the outcome of it.

EE Day Reflection – Dance

I’m really happy with the outcome of the EE day (9/05/19) because I think I really accomplished something. We spent a lot of time in the morning talking through everything we’ve done so far, where are we up to, we also created the essay planning and which directions to take. I know that I am behind everyone else, but I will do my best to get everything that needs to be done, especially now that I have finally breakdown my idea and have finally made a question (Alvin Ailey’s influence on African Dance in America?) which I’m really excited to get started on it right away. But, first I need to read the books related to Alvin Ailey that Ms.Thomas has recommended me to read, and I also need to watch some DVD’s about all his work and about him as a choreographer and an entertainer, so that I could familiarise myself before start writing anything.

Books I need to read:

  • Alvin Ailey (A LIfE IN DANCE)
  • Moving History/ Dancing Cultures (Africa)

I am really looking forward to starting reading these books and watching the DVD’s so that I can start my writing. I have also conducted some research so I will be referring to some articles, interviews, and videos that are related to Alvin Ailey and his work, and also choosing which resources/research is useful and deciding which ones to use, which one not to use, etc.
