Last week we had a peer coaching session where we practised coaching drills on the other members in our service. Reflection on strengths and weaknesses of the training:
Strengths:
- We were organised
- We set up the equipment quickly
- As pairs of coaches, we collaborated well together and ensured we were working together to manage the trainees
- As coaches, we split up and stood on opposite sides of the field so we could collectively cover more ground and keep a better eye on everyone
Areas for Improvement:
- We should have made sure that everyone fully understood the drill before beginning; we could have gone around individually to people who didn’t seem sure of what to do before starting the drill
- We could have gauged the level of difficulty betterĀ – for example, our peers were finding the drills quite easy so we should have made it more challenging
- We should have also been more encouraging and interactive with the children to ensure that they were engaged in the drill and had a more enjoyable experience
