Why Instagram Is The Worst Social Media For Mental Health.

Instagram is the worst social media network for mental health and well being according to a recent survey of almost 1,500 teens and young adults. While the photo-based got points for self-expression and self identity, it’s also related more with high levels of anxiety, depression, bullying, sleep quality and the “fear of missing out”.

Studies have suggested that young people who spent more than 2 hours a day on social networking sites are more likely to report psychology stress.“Seeing friends constantly on holiday or enjoying nights out can make young people feel like they are missing out while others enjoy life,” the #StatusOfMind report states.“These feelings can promote a ‘compare and despair’ attitude.”Social media  posts can also set unrealistic expectations and create feeling of low self esteem. This may explain why Instagram, where personal photos take center stage, received the worst scores for body image and anxiety.A survey respondent respond that Instagram make girls and women feel that their bodies aren’t good enough as people add filters and edit their pictures in order for them to look perfect.

The Royal Society hopes to empower young adults to use social networks “in a way that protects and promotes their health and wellbeing,” the report states. “Social media isn’t going away soon, nor should it. We must be ready to nurture the innovation that the future holds.”

My experience in Borneo:

Last year,I went to Borneo in Malaysia for my outdoor expedition. It was an amazing experience because I learn a lot from it.I met challenges which boost me forward while I am staying in there.I also learn about the environment and how plastics kill a lot of organisms and how most of the species in Borneo forest are becoming endangered and extinct because of palm oil.

This is what I did during the weeks

On this image, we are cleaning the lake at the camp that we went to, after staying in the research camp.We cleaned the algae/weed that is destroying the landscape of the lake and we end up happy because we had achieve something.

This is also one of the activity where we catch lizard (but not in a way that will kill them)we use a stick and a soft string,..It was really complicated to catch them but we work together and almost catch one.

We did a competition where we roam around the jungle, looking for a place to put our camera in order to capture cool photos of animals passing by and whoever capture the coolest photo wins.We came last, but it does not matter because we capture different species of monkeys.

Every morning,2 people from every group will climb the canopies from 6 to 6.30 and the other 2 from 6.30 to 7.I love it so much because it’s very peaceful in the morning and you can listen to different sounds that every species in the jungle made.I am also scared of heights but after climbing the canopy I started to not scared anymore.During the day, we do other stuff like catching different species of butterflies using the equipment that a person in the picture is holding.I love it so much because of how  unique and beautiful they are.I get a chance to learn more about butterflies.

In the picture below, we went and clean the river and pick up plastics bottles and other rubbish. This activity really touch me because I saw how the plastics is destroying the landscape of the river. The problem in Borneo river was that fisherman use plastics bottles for fishing and they just dump it in the river and that also apply to people who live near the river. It was really sad to see them do that but I think it will take a lot of time for them to change that habit because they have been doing that for a long time in their life. However, this activities motivates me to do something different , so I went back to my community and I started talking to my family and relatives about my experience and how bad the effects of plastics bring to the environment and as a result when they went for a shopping, they would take their own shopping bag with them and not bringing any plastics from the shop.

Other activities that I did was looking for python at night and looking for elephants during the day.We looked for python because the scientists need to check ,treat and give them their medics because of the palm oil problem.I am scared of snakes but it’s cool watching  how the researchers handle them and also it’s my first time seeing a python so it’s just like wow instead of screaming.

On the last day, we visited Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre where we went to see Orangutan and elephant and learn more about trees. It’s so cool and I really enjoyed it.They are not really tame so we follow the rules for safety. We are so lucky that they allowed us to see the baby elephants, they are so cute but it’s so sad that they can’t live in their natural habitat because it has been destroyed and they are becoming endangered.

Lastly, we did more than this activities…like planting trees, looking for birds early in the morning etc…However, it  was an amazing experience and I really do love it because I learn more about Biodiversity and the environment and the idea of doing something different.

Special thanks goes to the teachers..Mary and Katy and especially to our leader Phillip. They did a great job by keeping everyone safe and sound.Cheers to you guys.

What Rules Do You Have for Staying Healthy?

I think some of the rules that I have for staying healthy are eating healthy food, exercise, sleep well and stay clean and I seriously take eating healthy and exercise.I think eating healthy and sleeping well is maybe based on people beliefs..Eg.. if they belief that eating healthy or sleeping well makes you healthy, then they definitely will do it becauWhat rules Do you have for staying healthy?se they believe that it will bring them wellness, health and life not sickness.I think exercise might be the one that are grounded for science because you connect to the ground..eg when you run or take a walk you explore the surrounding which keeps your wellness up.

The article helps me aware of the food that fell on the ground within seconds because I always thought that if it falls and you pick it up as soon as possible, there will no bacteria present. However the article suggest that how fast you pick up the food from the floor, you pick bacteria with it.

Personal Statements.

UWC Experience On My First Year.

Coming to UWCSEA was an amazing experience and it really change me physically and mentally..Singapore was the first country that I have been to in terms of living my own country.Singapore was completely different from FIJI and also this diverse community was also different from the environment and the atmosphere I was brought up in.

I really like UWCSEA and I have million reason of why I like it.Firstly,I like the way that it’s not only focus on academic but also focus on the mission, individual well-being and outdoor education like  service, school trip, sports and etc and living in a diverse community.

I really learnt a lot of things about myself .My long term goal was get a job to help my parents and family at home.In the past,I really did not know more about myself but now,I found out that I am really an Independent person because I feel that I can survive without my parents or people that I trust being there for me .For example, coming to UWCSEA at a young age like 14,I really took the courage to be here and away from them because I believe you have to learn on how to survive without people close to you being there because they are not always going to be there.I think I am also a funny person because some people say that I just make their day by smiling and making them laugh which is a great thing to do because interacting with different people from different background makes our school mission firm on the ground in and outside this diverse community. For me, my strength will be interacting with other people and being a person that is courageous.

My long term aspiration is my career in the future.I want to become a marketing manager or a teacher.I chose marketing manager because I love travelling and I chose teacher because I just love to teach but overall I just want to get a job in the future in order to help my family back at home.Something that has lead to this aspiration is coming to UWCSEA.In FIJI I feel that the education system was really far behind and it still developing,so coming to UWCSEA was a big opportunity for me in achieving my dream and career. My short term goals is to see myself improve in a lot of things like in academic, sports, social life and etc and I believe all these things can all contribute in achieving my goals and dream.

I believe that I can get there in different ways.Right now,I am focusing on how I can improved my skills that can help me in life. However,my plan on achieving my dreams or career is get good grades by studying hard, doing homework, listen carefully and try to learn as many things as I can by facing challenges and trying to learn and understand different things.I am also trying my best to do well in sports because I am a sportive person and I believe that sports can also give you a 100 percent good future.

To conclude, this year was an amazing experience so far.I learned a lot of new and interesting things and I think deeper and look outside the box. After this year,I realized that I learned more about  myself and I gain confident in most of the things I do.Overall of my performance,I realized I really do step out of my comfort zone and I put everything I have to tackle something or tasks in a situation and I am really proud of myself that I tackle this year with a good outcome.

                                             THANK  YOU.

I think I will try to complete a lot of question and manage my time during the test and also learn what I am lack of in understanding and try to understand and do better next year.

Two process I remember from the exam will be  how we are not allowed to talk or look around in the exam hall and not bringing in unnecessary objects.

I would tell myself that I need to pass and study really hard because I can do this and please LORD help me.The most interesting part of the course is the algebra and angles but I am looking forward to next year.

Angles and circles is most important thing I learnt because I think I did well on it and I think I have to improved on functions and quadratics because I still need don’t understand some of it.

I think I know that if I did well on a test when I realized that I improve on question that I usually repeat mistakes on and I know that I kind of get and understand it and I will remember it in the future.

The challenge that I face was writing so fast and work on time and also understanding the question. The skills I will use will be skipping hard question and go to the easy one first and also make a lot of practice.

Softball because even though you can’t hit the ball, you can still hit it and it just take practice.

Maths class reflection.

Maths has a been a big challenge for me.From the first week I’ve been struggling along, trying to fit in the understanding of the work because most of the topic I’m learning is completely new. However, as time passed I’m going ok with it and it’s fine.

I was so pleased about how I was improving.

I want to improve more on how to do graph, solving equations and preparation before the exam because I feel I understand it but when exam came I freak out.

Improve exam result  and just to get and try to learn as much as I could .

I think I just have to ask more question.
