Maths and Me

Maths and Me

I have been learning math since my starting year at schools. Before 9th grade, I was back in Chinese public school studying math. Then, I took IB MYP Algebra 2 in the year I came to Singapore’s international school, which was two years before, and took precalculus for IB MYP in the following year. However, this is my first year in UWC.

When I am doing the math, I would normally get the feeling of accomplishment because I am getting the concepts step by step and find out the answers at last, but sometimes it can be confusing that there are tricky or hard questions. But anyways, I chose this course because I like the process of solving challenging math problems. Moreover, I just want to take the HL and face the challenges since the pre-cal seems to be not too much yet for me. So I am excited but sort of nervous. Also, I consider myself as a person in between preferring to solve problems on my own and taught by others. I enjoy to practice questions or do some new challenges myself just like what I said. And when I get stuck to a math problem I may review some possibly related notes first and do a few trails until I get actually no ideas anymore. At this point, when I realize it is a strongly challenging topic, I would prefer others to lead me a little and let me understand the processes. That’s how I will ask my classmates and teachers for help when I can no longer get deeper to the question.

As a math learner, I consider my best strength is the adaptable self. Each time I get involved in a new topic my thinking can be adapting and accepting the new knowledge quickly. So every time a new way of solving appears I can get the idea of it as fast as possible. The one point I should focus probably is picking up few of the original knowledge I learned before but fade a little over the vacation. Additionally, some of the areas I did not get to but required here should be caught up by me. One more thing, I may ask you a lot of questions over the learning of this course:)
