Friends of Fiji LO#6

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

This quote might be really cliché for a lot of people, but for me, it represents something really special and no matter how many times I use it, it will never lose its meaning.

Last week during service, we were collecting and sorting out different children’s’ books that we can later send to kids in schools in Fiji. While I was talking to my friends about all the books that we were putting in the boxes and which we have already read, I realized something really important. We, as few, really lucky people, had the chance to read those books when we were growing up, but the children who we were sending them to might now have. This might be someone’s first time holding a book in their little hands and we, UWCSEA students helped them to open up their eyes on the world to see a bigger perspective on what is happening around them. There are so many people around the world, who don’t have the chance to read or to study. For these people, education is either really expensive or not accessible. With this GC, I feel like we could help one of those children, maybe even more. I can’t believe that I was the part of something this special.
