Creativity during COVID-19

From Boomerang Bags, I was able to learn how to sew and use a sewing machine. It sparked an interest that I am incredibly grateful for, and have been able to utilise during COVID-19. I was able to take my mum’s sewing machine and attempt to make my own masks. In Singapore, it is mandatory to wear a mask all the time, so I wanted to utilise my newly learnt skill of sewing into use. I found that it has been immensely successful to my surprise! I have been able to make over 30 masks, being able to sell them to friends and family to be able to develop some craftsmanship.

Here are two of my masks!

Here is me making my masks at home.

Through Learning Objectives 6 and 7, I feel really happy that I am able to use the skills I have learnt to not even have used one surgical mask for one-time use. Reusable masks are much better for the environment, and as I have washed mine multiple times, I find that there is no difference between washes and each time seems good as new.

Having recently watched the David Attenborough documentary: “Life on our Planet”, I was terrified of the descriptions he was describing a potential future. I hope to be able to do small things, such as using reusable masks instead of one-time-use ones to be able to do my small part in helping. Obviously, this is just a small gesture and I hope to be able to do more in the future.
