Throughout the beginning of G12, I have been leading the people in my service through the service-learning process and teaching them more about the way in which Apex Harmony Lodge operates. Ahrim and I (Co-Chairs of Apex Harmony Lodge) worked on planning and creating activities. Some of the activities that I think were especially useful were going through the Apex Harmony Lodge website and going through the video stimulus with the students. This helped the students know more about the cause of the service and the importance of the work that we do.
Going forward into the October break, we chose who our leadership team will be for this year. We have now chosen our two chairs, our communication officer and our logistics officer. We have also met with all of them now to collaborate and give them tips on all the tasks they should do in preparation for our meetings. This is a lengthy process but after going through this, I now understand the importance of proper coaching and passing over of activities. This is especially important in service where we are trying to maintain a strong relationship with our service partners. We have passed on all of our planning documents, our email structuring document and our calendaring document. We’ve also taught them about the importance of managing tasks and splitting tasks effectively within a group – as well as methods in which they can do this. For example, assigning people jobs on google docs. I think working collaboratively with them will be very beneficial in the long term and will allow them to carry on the work that we’ve already been doing with the service. We are aiming to make the transition as seamless as possible for our partners!
