Within her presentation, Amelia gave examples of  how the story of David and Goliath had been retold in modern-day movies (David and Goliath, Orson Welles) and TV shows (Davey and Goliath), as well as being referenced in books (David and Goliath, Malcom Gladwell). In addition, the idea that the story of David and Goliath has transcended a narrative sense into part of the english language is evident within the phrase of “squashing giants”.

While the progress and development of the foundational story leaves some to be desired, the difference between the biblical original and modern interpretations can be seen within the presentation. While specific differences weren’t described within each modern revision, they were hinted at throughout the presentation.

The reasons and opinions of why this foundational story have been integrated and adapted into popular culture were clearly explained. The idea of the favourite and the underdog that belies the story of David and Goliath is frequented in modern culture such as sports, and as such, is given a sort of “timeless relevance”. In addition, the popularity of christianity as a religion was hinted at as a separate reason to the survival of “David and Goliath”.
