PROJECT WEEK PHOTOS | TAIWAN 2018

Project Week Group Reflection 1)

Initially, we felt quite challenged by responsibility and task given to us, as we had never planned a trip independently, and had never realised how intricately trips need to be planned. For instance, we had to find a reliable partner in Taiwan for our adventure activities and service, that would be approved by the school in terms of safety. The tasks kept on building up, and we felt slightly overwhelmed.

However, as a group, we soon picked up our pace and began to assign tasks to each other and split up the workload. For example, Hanna helped liaison with Grasshopper Adventures, Yukta booked the hotel, Trisha bought the first aid kit and Judy collected information on Taiwan. This worked well since it meant that more people were contributing. It also helped us get closer as a group since initially, we all didn’t know each other very well.

In terms of contacting the organisation, everything went by pretty smoothly. While other groups around us did not know where to stay, or had trouble getting permission for their activity/service element, we did not have a problem with this. Since it is a tour, we did not have to plan as much as other groups on our own. They were able to come back to us within a day or two, and helped us amend our itineraries.

While the cost of our project does exceed $1000, we believed that this was for the better, since an experience like this does not come knocking on your door everyday. We were able to get permission for this at an early stage, therefore we did not face much difficulty.

In terms of service, the organisation, Grasshopper Adventures, was able to connect us with an NGO (New Dawn Educare Centre). Here, they take care of and entertain people with disabilities. Since we wanted to create a larger impact than we would make just by being there, we decided on creating an infographic and a video that would raise awareness of the issue to the people of our school, as well as invite people to help New Dawn Educare Centre directly. To achieve this goal, we assigned roles to each of us (Hanna and Judy to make the infographic, Trisha and Yukta to make the video), and decided on getting as much information as we can from the people at New Dawn while we are there, as well as collect photos/videos from the organisation (with permission) to make the video.

Project Week Media Guidance Post

Group 25-Media coordinator planning

Organizing and keeping a clear folder structure.

  1. Recommendation: store all folders on one post
  2. Have folders for each day
  3. Have standards for what gets selected/number of photos/videos you want to target

Avoid taking too many photos with no meaning. Folder by day, topic, activity, or by shot. Tell people to look through footage before putting it in the folder. Only the photos that are good, not all. Set a number.

    Folder Here

Have a clearly communicated vision for what you are hoping to create and who your primary audience is (is this for the stakeholder?)

For future project week students going to Taiwan. To raise awareness.

  4. Your message and audience are shared and agreed on
  5. You have thought about what your audience needs to hear, see

What is the message? Audience? Helps avoid dumping many photos, more meaningful media.

Our project is aimed at the future project week students, as well as the community here to raise awareness on the issue. We should include videos of the culture of Taiwan (during our activities), as well as information about the service partner, New Dawn Educare Centre.

3). You have mentor texts to guide you and your team.

  1. Share 1-2 links as mentor texts
  2. Describe which ideas you want to steal

Find mentor texts with stylistic features appropriate for our project

The infographic is a good way to give insight into the problem. It is easy to read and is eye-catching. We could use this kind of idea of raise awareness for New Dawn Educare Centre in a fun and colourful way.

The video is a creative way to show the culture of Taiwan, for the future project week groups. It shows the tradition and environment of Taiwan, which lets the audience know more about Taiwan.

4.) Roles and responsibilities for the timeline of production

  1. Meetings during project week? After?
  2. Editing shared or the job of one?
  3. How will you ensure your final work is ready to be shared by the end of June?

Make a timeline, roles and responsibilities. Make sure everyone has something to do.

We can take pictures and gather information from the organisation and put it in the folders after each day. Then after project week, we can compile the information into a video or infographic. Since we want to make a video and an infographic, we can have 2 people working on each. We will break the process down into steps, and set deadlines for each week, to ensure that is it done by the end of June.
