EE DAY Reflection

MY English B EE DAY

What I’ve learnt:

I learnt how to do MLA in-text citation and bibliography. For example, when we use ideas or sentences(paraphrase it) from a journal, we need to put the author’s first name and the page number. i.e. (Taylor 72)

I also learnt that when we use the exact sentence from any source, we need to put quotation marks and cite it.

Citation is very important!!! No Plagiarism!!!

What I’m Proud of:

I have made some progress on my EE during the day. I learnt how to cite in the correct format so that I find it very easy to do citation now. I found some useful information during my research process. Also, I have decided which part of my outline to write first (1000 words).

What I’ll be doing next:

I will make a list of all the things that I am going to talk about in my first section. I am going to bookmark all the resources that I am going to use. I will also set myself a timeline and write a bit everyday.

Project Week Media Guidance Post

Group 25-Media coordinator planning

Organizing and keeping a clear folder structure.

  1. Recommendation: store all folders on one post
  2. Have folders for each day
  3. Have standards for what gets selected/number of photos/videos you want to target

Avoid taking too many photos with no meaning. Folder by day, topic, activity, or by shot. Tell people to look through footage before putting it in the folder. Only the photos that are good, not all. Set a number.

    Folder Here

Have a clearly communicated vision for what you are hoping to create and who your primary audience is (is this for the stakeholder?)

For future project week students going to Taiwan. To raise awareness.

  4. Your message and audience are shared and agreed on
  5. You have thought about what your audience needs to hear, see

What is the message? Audience? Helps avoid dumping many photos, more meaningful media.

Our project is aimed at the future project week students, as well as the community here to raise awareness on the issue. We should include videos of the culture of Taiwan (during our activities), as well as information about the service partner, New Dawn Educare Centre.

3). You have mentor texts to guide you and your team.

  1. Share 1-2 links as mentor texts
  2. Describe which ideas you want to steal

Find mentor texts with stylistic features appropriate for our project

The infographic is a good way to give insight into the problem. It is easy to read and is eye-catching. We could use this kind of idea of raise awareness for New Dawn Educare Centre in a fun and colourful way.

The video is a creative way to show the culture of Taiwan, for the future project week groups. It shows the tradition and environment of Taiwan, which lets the audience know more about Taiwan.

4.) Roles and responsibilities for the timeline of production

  1. Meetings during project week? After?
  2. Editing shared or the job of one?
  3. How will you ensure your final work is ready to be shared by the end of June?

Make a timeline, roles and responsibilities. Make sure everyone has something to do.

We can take pictures and gather information from the organisation and put it in the folders after each day. Then after project week, we can compile the information into a video or infographic. Since we want to make a video and an infographic, we can have 2 people working on each. We will break the process down into steps, and set deadlines for each week, to ensure that is it done by the end of June.

LO 4 COMMITMENT (Showing perseverance, resilience and commitment in activities)

RDA Friday-Term 3

For this term, I continued to work with Tobi. He is a very positive and out-going boy. He is mostly quite easy to communicate with which made my “job” much easier. He could reply to my questions as long as I gave him two options to choose from, for example, “do you like chicken rice or beef noddles?” I tried to make my questions simple and straightforward.

Since today is an introduction session, I led him do some streching at the start and brought him to meet his new horse. His new horse’s name is Jota but he kept calling her “Ishitria”, which is the name of his precious horse. I tried to correct him during the session and kept asking him “what is the name of your horse?” to enhance his memory. I think it is helpful because by calling the right name, he can work with his horse better and build a relationship with her in the further sessions. Tobi is actually a very smart kid but sometimes he just couldn’t remember it. The instructor also suggested me to talk to him in short sentences.

I held his hands and brought him walk around. He seemed very excited to see so many horses. But sometimes, I could notice that whenever he felt nervous, he would grab my hands very tightly.

For our next session, my goal is to communicate with him more and maybe teach him some new words. I also want to make sure that he can sit in the centre of the saddle in a straight posture.

Looking forward to see him next time!

LO 4 COMMITMENT (Showing perseverance, resilience and commitment in activities)

EE Initial Reflection-English B EE

I chose English B as my EE based on the topic regarding the influence of social media on the written English Language. This is related to our daily life as social media has become increasingly popular and ubiquitous. Written communication has taken new forms, structure and meanings. Therefore, I came up with my research question: How has Facebook, Twitter and Instagram influenced the evolution of written English Language in the 21st Century in the use of syntax punctuation, abbreviation and acronyms?

When I started preparing my outline, I found completing 4000 words to be an unachievable task. It was difficult to string my ideas into words. After my first discussion with my supervisor, my thoughts became clearer, for instance, adding in the origin of the hashtag and explaining how it has developed. Subsequently, I gained a better sense of direction to proceed with my research.

Word count: 145

RDA- Last session of term 2

This Friday was my last RDA session in term 2. I was allocated to a boy called Tobi along with the other side- walker, Tanya. I have seen him a few times but today was my first time to work with him. I introduced myself to him and I tried to built a trust relationship with him. He was quite outgoing but sometimes he seems to be lost in a world of his own.

We led him do some warm-up at the start to strech his arms and legs. He could do it quite well. After that, we went straight into the riding session. I held his ankle throughout the session to ensure he would not fall down from the horse when he got excited. He seemed very energetic and thrilled. The instructor asked me and Tanya to watch out his sitting position and keep reminding him to straighten his body. I remembered the most word I said to Tobi was “STRAIGHT”.

To conclude this term, I have improved my communication skills and leading skills a lot. I started to know how to approach different riders with different disabilities. I learnt to be patient when working with them. It was a meaningful term to me.

For next term, I am looking forward to meet new riders!

POTTERY-Season 2

During this season in pottery, I made several pots despite some difficulties along the way.

At the start, I find it difficult to make a perfect shape for my pot. I tried several times and I tried to be as gentle as possible while creating the shape. After a while, I was used to the pace. I enjoyed pinching the clay.

After firing, I painted my pot with different size of brushes carefully and fired it again. Painting my pots were also quite challenging because it requires patience.

To sum up my pottery experience, I was fascinated by creating something with my own hands, something I had not done much of when I was young. By looking at my “artwork”, I feel a sense of pride and fulfuillment.

RDA-First Riding Session 2018

This friday, I went to RDA centre and started my first riding session with Jahanna. We led the warm-up according to his ability levels. We asked Johanna to extend his arms, stretch his legs by having him try to bend over and touch his toe. Since it was very to get him understand our instruction, we did the warm-up first and let him mimick us. He did quite well, we praised him by giving him the thumb-up.

I could feel that he was very excited to ride a horse. He waited for 3 weeks… I held his ankles at the start but he seemed quite confident. It was out of my expectation. I was very happy to see him sat straightly at the centre of the saddle. We walked for 3 rounds and the instructor started asking all the riders to leave their hands up in the air. She also asked them to do airplane pose and some harder ones. Johanna could barely do the airplane pose as it was very difficult for him to straighten his arms. He was also unwilling to try it.

Overall, today’s riding session went quite well and I could feel Johanna’s sense of happiness. I will continue to work with him patiently for the rest of the year and I hope he would get better and better each time.

LO 5 COLLABORATION (Working together to achieve an outcome)

RDA Friday–Introduction

Last Friday, I worked with a new rider during RDA service. His name is Johanna and he has a serious hearing problem and has weak limbs. He is one year younger than me. At the start, I had no idea how to work with him, how to approach him and how to get his attention. I was quite worried. I tapped him a few times, but he didn’t really looked at me.

I asked his father about how to approach Johanna, he taught me some sign languages. This was my first time using sigh languages to communicate with a kid. I learnt how to say his name—-by  drawing a “J” in the air followed by a “heart”. I learnt how to say “LOOK”, “HORSE RIDING”, “STOP”…It is very interesting to get to know all these sign languages, although some are just simple ones. I hope along the way, I can acquire more sign languages and work closely with Johanna, giving him a sense of security.

I really look forward to my next riding session with Johanna!

Design An Activity-IFP

During Tuesday’s IFP session, we were told to plan an activity for either next year’s IFP training for the Grade 11 or for an IFP conference.

Our idea was based on an institute called “Institute for Multi-Track Diplomacy” and a “world game”. Below is what our group has came up with:

Proposal for next year’s IFP training:-

    • There will be two countries
    • Each country will have government officials of the ratio (1:15, one official for every 15 people)
    • These two countries will not be at peace with each other.
    • The two teams will be taken into different rooms at the start and evoke feelings of hatred towards the other team by telling them all the wrong done to them and telling them that the government officials in their team have the most power.
    • Towards the beginning of the session they will be given a list of Conduct Combat protocol :
      • Air strikes
      • Ground assault
      • Tank warfare
      • Naval engagement
  • Negotiation protocol :
    • Who to talk to
    • Make a deal
    • Getting what you need
    • Getting others to see it your way
  • The outcome we hope to get is that the two ‘countries’ will realize that just letting the government sort the issues is not very effective and that a multi track system such as letting the citizens be involved is more effective.

MY Reflection:

I presented our idea in the end. To me, it was my first time to actually represent my group alone and stand up to speak. I could feel other students were all looking at me which made me extremely nervous. To be honest, I did not present well. I was kind of stuck for a few seconds and continued to talk in a rather soft voice. Despite the fact that I did not present well and clear enough, I was quite proud of myself, being brave and confident. I believed that I can improve my presentation skills next time and I thought I need to speak more during every discussion and try to project my voice.
