English Lang&Lit – Advertisement

This advertisement shows differences in representation of women back in time and now. Both advertisements displays the concept of feminism and female power, but is portrayed in different ways. First things first, it is prevalent that both advertisements are raising awareness on female power, which in other words, could be another way of conveying stereotypes as due to the fact that women are considered “weak” and therefore campaigns/adverts like this are made. Both adverts conveyed this message by using visual symbols such as texts and images to emphasise, however, the advert back in time contain more stereotypes as the lady in the advert was wearing heavy makeup, and portrayed in a way women would be expected to be — pretty, fragile and feminine. The advert of nowadays portrayed women in a much more neutral way, as she was boxing — which is a sport that requires loads of body strengths,  and could be seen having muscles. Secondly, the texts in the two adverts also implied different messages. The bold text in the first advert says “we can do it”, the word ‘we’ represents the female community, whereas the second advert used the word “yourself”, which emphasises the importances of female independence. These words also convey different values by the time, back in time people wanted to raise awareness of female empowerment, but in nowadays people have the belief that women can also be strong and independent.

CAS initial – DJ club

I joined DJ club because this is always something that I wanted to experience but never really had the change to explore. This can also be one challenge for me since I am not a musical student and this aspect is one of my weaknesses. I decided to join so that i can challenge myself and explore something new. I also chose to do this because I want to stop out of my comfort zone. Although I like listening to music, but it is hard sometimes for me to embrace different types of new music and explore the theoretical knowledge behind the music. DJ club allows me to learn more about music, for example the bpm of the music, the type of the music, how to mix two tracks and etc. Normally I don’t like to explore different music because I am quite lazy and couldn’t be bothered to, but DJ club allows me to force myself in doing something that I wouldn’t normally do, mixing different types of music can be a challenge. I am always willing to learn and not afraid of failing, I believe this could be my strengths in learning. However, I might be lacking of creativity in music so that my weakness is that I am not brave enough to explore new things. I hope that by the end of this activity I can improve my weaknesses.

CAS initial – lighthouse motor skill development

I joined the service lighthouse motor skill development because I want to raise awareness on the disabled community and help them to achieve the best that I could. I sometimes get annoyed at my cousins, and I really won’t say that I love kids, but I like helping kids. The kids are really adorable and friendly,  I hope that by the end of the service, I can have more understanding about this community, including how to use sign language and the difficulties for deal-blind people. I also hope that the kids that are coming to our school can have fun and have some sort of development in their motor skills or interpersonal skills. I believe that my strengths that can help me to achieve my goal are I have loads of ideas, I am always empathic and willing to help. However, due to the fact that I have never communicated with hearing lose or visually impaired kids, it can be bit of a challenge to communicate with them. I also hope that by the end of this service I can improve my patience and learn how to interact with different people and how to face difficult situations.
